Frog and Toad

Dear Reader,

Today is one of my favorite days in the year. The day where we put down new mulch around the yard. From one of my dear friend's posting about this same topic, I'm not alone in loving this freshening of landscaping. Honestly, I think it sometimes makes more of an impact on the look of a yard than adding many annuals. My opinion.

This year the "we" of putting down mulch was more of a completed by "me" thing. I wondered how I was going to keep my dear boy occupied in the midst of the project. (While he loves being outside, group participation in his play is usually requested.) Within the first ten minutes of my efforts, I found a toad hopping through the landscaping. Fantastic. My son gently played with the toad during the bulk of the morning - taking it for rides in his car, setting it next to him while doing sidewalk chalk, and just petting it.

After a good handwashing and lunch, we went back outside to continue with the yard work. Again, within the first ten minutes we happened upon a frog. My son then did a repeat of morning activities with his new friend, the frog.

We put both toad and frog back where we found them (hopefully no worse for the wear), and I think both my son and I had a wonderful day outside.

Sincerely,
Abi

P.S. The landscaping seems so much more tidy and crisp. Mulch never disappoints.
