A year ago today...

Dear Reader,

...we closed on our new house. It's not so new to us anymore, but some of our initial impressions remain. The moment we walked in the door, this house felt warm, comfortable, and retreat-like. This house still carries that feel for me. We loved (and still enjoy) having a great room living area, a kitchen with plenty of cabinet-space, a big garage, a finished basement, and generally a home that has enough space without being too big.

I think my husband and I struggled with leaving the house we had invested so much time and effort into fixing up. We still miss aspects of the old house - the character, the marks we made on the place, and the memories too. We often look back though and wonder about how we found time to do all of those house projects.

We have already had some wonderful moments in this new house - time spent with our families, friends that have shared a meal with us (or even news of their engagement!), safari adventures with our son, evening wagon rides, and so many moments spent out in the yard. We've met great neighbors who have become friends for us and for our son.

One major debate remains: do we live in the suburbs or the country. My husband's view: we live in a neighborhood, and therefore we are in the suburbs. True. My view: we have three fresh egg stands and a full farm with many cows two minutes from our home and smell "country air" regularly, and so we have moved to the county. True. We'll see if we come to a conclusion on this question over the next year.

Sincerely,
Abi
