Dear Reader,
Yes, the dedication continues. Our robin has returned to her nest and hatched four healthy baby birds. This robin is one busy mother, making frequent outings in order to keep up with the four new mouths to feed. The babies are tightly snuggled into the nest, and they stay in their places with some regularity (perhaps due to the lack of extra space?) I would suspect that they will be gone in a matter of days as the little birds seem about ready to try out their wings.
Their nest in is close proximity to our sandbox, and my son has been amazingly patient and respectful. We have often needed to cut our time in the sand short if we notice the mother itching to return to her young.
Our mourning dove has also come back on the scene. She has another egg in her nest and is now awaiting that baby bird's arrival.
And so ends my latest report on birdwatching from our backyard.
Sincerely,
Abi
