Turning Three

Dear Reader,

I had the pleasure of celebrating my son's birthday a few weeks ago. He's three now. In the weeks approaching his birthday I would catch myself still saying that he was two and a half when someone would ask his age. I think my hesitation in saying three is due to the reality check that he's less of a toddler and more of a young boy now. Meanwhile, during the week of his birthday, my son only once shared that he was turning three. "How old are you now?" people would ask. His response: "I'm ten." Slow down, buddy! (Clearly, I'm not ready for ten.)

We celebrated with birthday parties including both sides of the family. His actual birthday though was spent with his mom and in the evening his dad too. Here's the rundown of the day:

Sleeping in
Eating a pancake breakfast
Walking around our favorite garden and sculpture park
Savoring lunch (which included his favorite blueberry muffin)
Enjoying a trip to the bookstore to pick out a few new favorites
Stopping at Target to purchase a toy snake the birthday boy had been eyeing for months
Running through the sprinkler late in the afternoon
Eating dinner and birthday cake with candles
Opening a few presents
Watching a Curious George birthday episode and falling asleep on the couch

A great day by all accounts. I can only imagine what stories we will share in the year ahead. Each day is an adventure, and the last three years have been the best in my life so far.

Sincerely,
Abi
