Dear Reader,
I am a chronic book starter. I currently have five books sitting on my nightstand, all of which I've read the first chapter or two and then failed to continue with reading for one reason or another. I have the best of intentions in reading the rest of each book, and then I get excited about reading another one. And the cycle continues.
I can hardly believe that back to school time is upon us once again. This season in time is full of nostalgia for me. I look back on the experiences and the friendship, but I also remember fondly the courses completed over the years (probably more so now - in hindsight - than at the time, and, I know, nerd alert!) I think that I did best in math and history classes, but literary works read over the years have stuck with me.
I recall reading Sandra Cisneros' The House on Mango Street in early middle school. Her book was so compelling to me at the time maybe because it is a coming of age book about a young woman. Even more though, I think I fell in love with her writing style and the use of vignettes to weave together the story. I really enjoy reading vignettes and the carefully selected details included in them. Because vignettes are so brief, I am so often drawn to just read one more.
I've recently started a sixth book for the nightstand (yes, a book of vignettes) and read the first 70 pages in a sitting. As you would guess, this book will be quickly completed and thoroughly enjoyed along the way. And the other books will hopefully be read sometime soon as maybe this book provides the momentum needed to keep on reading. Or maybe I will finish this book and just continue reading blogs, which are these lovely vignettes about the lives of those dear to me.
Sincerely,
Abi
