Dear Reader,
This summer I tried to branch out on purchasing some new items of clothing. One of my finds was a sleeveless shirt with beading on it. I call it my rock star shirt. It's a great piece to layer with a jean jacket or khaki blazer and to feel young and sort of in style. It's a little bit outside my comfort zone with clothing, but I like it.
My son has developed quite opinionated views on clothes - his and others'. I made the mistake of asking him what he thought of my rock star shirt when I first wore it, and he instantly disliked it. Every time I wear, he says, "Mommy, I don't want you to be a rock star. I want you to be my mom." Fair enough. I'm thinking that this shirt will sit in my closet most of the time for now, and, to be honest, it's plenty gratifying being his mom.
My son's big wish for Christmas this year is a guitar. He says that he needs it to start his "big, big band." I'm a little afraid of where this is headed, given he's got dreams of a starting a band at three years old. It gets better though. My little boy has invited my husband and I to be band members. (Ha! If you know my husband and me, I think we are perhaps the least likely candidates of being band people. Ever.) Here's the plan (according to the group's leader): he will play drums and the guitar, his dad will play trumpet (from his brief experience in middle school), and his mom is to play her flute, which will add a nice touch to the group. Quite the big, big band. Tour to follow someday (and maybe I'll even wear the rock star shirt then!)
Sincerely,
Abi
