Dear Reader,
My dad always says that the two hardest days of work for people seem to be the day after New Year's (because the holidays are over) and the day after Labor Day (because summer is behind us.) I think this may be a very true observation. Even so, I consider the day after Labor Day as a day full of amazing college memories for me.
The college I attended always begins the fall semester on the Tuesday after Labor Day. There would be opening convocation, a special shortened class time, and at least one picnic (maybe even for lunch and dinner that day.) And to top it off, that day marked a start of opportunities to connect with people - plenty of new people to meet and wonderfully familiar faces that were missed throughout the summer.
During this first week after Labor Day as a first year student, I met a guy in math class when we had to pair up for a computer lab activity. The pairing stuck as he is my husband now. And as a sophomore, this day after Labor Day started my time with my favorite college roommate who also became one of my dearest friends. My junior year at this time began my stretch of acting as a resident assistant alongside some really wonderful people including an amazing friend with whom we have shared the privilege of being maid of honor for each other. My senior year at this time began the final semester of my college experience and a really great term of wrapping up school (and living a lovely cottage on a lake - a story very deserving of its own post.)
This week is full of college time memories. It's also an anniversary, an anniversary of the start of so many relationships that have stuck over time. To those who are included in that experience, know how grateful I am that our paths crossed then and how much I value you in my life now.
Sincerely,
Abi
