Once Upon a Time...

Dear Reader,

Reading books with my son is one of my favorite activities to do together. We often have a place in our afternoon when reading a few books sounds great to me and OK by him and certainly story time before bed is a must. But, if you read in between the lines - no pun intended - I will say it's difficult to capture an energetic three year old for long periods of book reading. Time spent on stories has been prompted much more by me than by him. Until now.

In the past few months, my son has become quite taken with sitting and reading books (thank goodness!) Library visits have become frequent, and we're both soaking in the fun of reading good books together. I've hoped this stage would come, and how great that we're here.

A "game" has also developed from our story reading - story telling. My son will usually start. He begins his story with "once upon a time" and either retells a tale that he remembers, or he even makes up one about us or about familiar characters often doing ordinary life activities. Then he points to one of his parents and says, "It's your turn." Our creativity is certainly stretching with each tale, and I'm relishing this new twist of imagination.

Sincerely,
Abi
