Dear Reader,
This is a story about finding the silver lining.
As I've mentioned, my husband experienced a very busy spring, summer, and early fall at work. Toward the end of summer, my husband starting taking Wednesdays as his weekend and then worked Saturday and Sunday (in an effort to accomplish more project work uninterrupted.) In the last month, he has returned to a normal work schedule and more regular, less demanding work hours. Yes! Phew!
While I sincerely hope that we don't return to the ways of the recent months, I think we've come through that time in good shape. We learned to appreciate our Wednesdays and to use that time for family activities (rather than catching up on housework and running errands - which I tried to accomplish on the other days of the week.) We all looked forward to what we were about on that day, and I think we all felt rested and reconnected through those moments.
In the last month we have been filling our evenings and weekends with activities that we had aimed to do together this summer. The amazingly cooperative weather this October and November has been a big help in accomplishing this goal. We've made a few trips to the beach. We fit in a weekend getaway to one of our favorite towns. We took our son to the zoo. We frequented our little boy's favorite park. We've enjoyed many a bike ride around the block. We played baseball in the backyard.
All of this points to savoring the moment. As I look towards a time of year that is abounding with holiday activities, I hope to remain rooted in appreciation for the everyday.
Sincerely,
Abi
