Fancy

Dear Reader,

Over Thanksgiving weekend we had the pleasure of celebrating a significant milestone with my parents - their 40th wedding anniversary. I consider it such a gift to have both of these people in my life, and even more that they share such a deep commitment and love for one another. Definitely an occasion to celebrate, and as such my husband, son, and I joined my parents for a very nice dinner in our downtown.

We got a bit dressed up and met up for our night out. My incredibly thoughtful mother brought a sticker book for my son to occupy some time during dinner. And we all were impressed by how nicely the three year old at our table sat through dinner and patiently handled much adult conversation. We thought his favorite memory of the night would be the vanilla bean gelatto, as he polished off his entire serving. However, in heading to the restroom before leaving the restaurant, my son ended up barely making it to the bathroom before losing his gelatto. He managed the situation like a champ. And I could barely keep from laughing because of my son's priceless response to the situation, "Mom, this is why I don't like fancy." Good point.

Although the ending was less than ideal, the memory of a special celebration of my folks will stick with me for a while I hope.

Sincerely,
Abi
