A Word for 2011

Dear Reader,

I shared the tale of my husband's flu at Christmas. Since then, my son and I had two weeks of cold symptoms which progressed to pneumonia. Then, this past Monday I picked up my dear 3 1/2 year old (yep, he's already halfway through 3!) and pulled a muscle in my neck. (He's not my baby any longer. Confirmed.) This is a long introduction, but I'm not leading into a pity party. Honest.

Actually, the past few weeks have solidified my word to focus on this year (and beyond): gratitude. Each day that is normal and healthy is exceptional. Each opportunity to watch my son share his latest clever idea or precious reaction to life: fabulous. Relationships, purposeful work, inspiring writing, restful pauses - all gifts.

So begins my late January resolution (better late than never?) to fill my days with feeling and thinking and acting with appreciation and thankfulness.

Sincerely,
Abi
