Sorting Coins

Dear Reader,

On the rainy days at the end of April, we were fast losing interest in the books, games, and toys that helped us stay in often through the winter. One morning my son asked if he could pull out our coin jar and sort out the coins. I had no objections, and this ended up being quite a lengthy endeavor for him.

He stuck with this sorting and first separated the copper coins from the silver ones, and then he started separating out the dimes, nickles, and quarters. (Had I planned this activity a bit more, we could have then rolled the coins. Maybe another day.)

I am constantly reminded that the everyday items around our home are many times the best toys and learning tools. And this coin sorting does make me wonder if some accounting could be in our boy's future. We'll see.

Sincerely,
Abi
